Way of the Wolf

Welcome to Way of the Wolf:
A mentorship in nature connection, ecology, and rewilding for women.

A Nalungiaq woman once explained:
In the very earliest of time
when both people and animals lived on earth
a person could become an animal if he wanted to
and an animal could become a human being.
Sometimes they were people
and sometimes animals
and there was no difference.
All spoke the same language.
That was the time when words were like magic.
The human mind had mysterious powers.
A word spoken by chance might have strange consequences.
It would suddenly come alive
and what people wanted to happen could happen
—all you had to do was say it.
Noboby can explain this.
Thats’ the way it was.

The ancient mythological worldview expressed in this Inuit teaching is echoed in indigenous stories across the globe. Sadly, this primal wisdom is now largely forgotten in contemporary cultures.
Join us at Way of the Wolf and remember our true nature through
educational and transformational experiences that foster interspecies well-being and ecoliteracy. Reserve your space for just one event or recieve 20% off when you register for more.

Women Rising Wild Summer 2024 Update

Newsletter Subject: Enter to Win Up To $2700 Towards a Women Rising Wild Retreat, Retirement News, & Fundraiser Update

Polar Bear

Dear Wild Beloveds,
We have reached the end of an era.

Retirement Announcement

With gratitude, love, and deep emotional sentiment I share the news that Women Rising Wild will retire with our closing ceremony following our Summer Solstice retreat with wolves in Colorado on June 22, 2025. It is my hope to see every single women who has been with us before along with some new initiates at this final event and celebration.

A vision for our Women Rising Wild retreat with wolves was birthed in 2016. In 2017 I hosted our first event in collaboration with Mission: Wolf in Colorado. Our work has exponentially grown every year for the past 7 years. And we’ve hosted more than 20 retreats in this time.

It has been a most remarkable and life-affirming journey.

Our healing and our healing work will be a part of me forever and my forthcoming memoir about women, wolves, and wilderness.

I will have more words for all of this soon.

For now, to all of the women who have made this retreat a community, please know I love you with all that I am. I’m grateful beyond words for you and what we have shared. I look forward to this final year with you. For everyone else, visit our website to learn more about Women Rising Wild and join us for our final year of epic, life-changing experiences.

Fundraiser updates

This year at Women Rising Wild we purchased an AED to donate to Mission: Wolf. We are still requesting donations to cover the cost of this purchase. If you’d like to contribute, please reply to this email for instructions or view our social media announcement here.

We are also promoting a GoFundMe effort established to support Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch and the Heart-J Center located near Loveland, CO. During the Alexander Mountain fire evacuation two horses were injured and needed emergency surgery at Colorado State University. During the fire, Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch lost nearly 1000 acres to the fire. They can use all the help we can offer. Please consider supporting their GoFundMe here.

Farewell for Now

In closing this summer newsletter, I acknowledge that it has been my sweetest pleasure and privilege to work alongside staff and animals at Mission: Wolf, Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch, High Hope Ranch, Ano Nuevo State Park, Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, Natural Bridges State Park, Monterey Bay Aquarium, and City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, to provide seven years of Women Rising Wild retreat experiences for an exceptional community of powerful, wise, wild, and beautiful women.

My spirited thanks also to Kelly Cooper, Margie McSweeney, Skye Hansen, and Colleen Crowley who have offered invaluable support to our weekends and our community from inception and as we grew. And to our 2018 cohort who made this retreat a sisterhood: Dani, Jules, Merry, Leah, and Sarah Jo – you showed me who and what Women Rising Wild is. We are the daughters of the fire, sisters of the wolf, and tenders of soul and healthy feminine power. To the many others who came in the years that followed: Priscilla, Mari, Chelsea, Jen, Karin, Christi, Angela, Macaley, Brianna, Liz, Stacey, and more – you have become family. Together, over these seven years, we’ve achieved many significant and life-promoting transformations and we created lasting memories to feed the heart. I will cherish them always.

I am honored to continue our work for one more year with new and returning women.

To everyone in our beloved Women Rising Wild community, please keep in touch. And I look forward to seeing the continued success and growth of each of you as medicine women.

Thank you for the opportunity you’ve given me. Wishing you all the best. Till soon….

In wild love,
Melissa Lynn Reed
Women Rising Wild Visionary
Transformational Guide and Soul Sister

P.S. I am getting texts, calls, and emails of love in response to this newsletter and I am receiving questions about retirement of Women Rising Wild. I am happy to respond to these notes. Public announcements about what’s next will come in time. But be assured that while this is an end to an era, there is more to come. This is a time and opportunity for celebration and deep integration of what we’ve learned. It is the time that precedes the birth of something new. La Loba has gathered all the bones. We have sung to them and danced our souls into life. We are women. We are wild. And we have risen.

img_4178History of Afternoon Tea and Dushanbe Teahouse: The Dushanbe Teahouse located in downtown Boulder describes the custom of afternoon tea as “a wonderful way to spend time with a cherished friend while taking a respite from the hectic pace of today’s busy world.” The ritual of Afternoon Tea is credited to Anna, the Seventh Duchess of Bedford. As was customary during the later 1700′s and early 1800′s, people would eat a large breakfast in the morning, a petite lunch, and then conclude meals with a substantial dinner around 8:00pm. The Duchess, described a “sinking feeling” during the afternoon, and began to request tea and cakes to tide her over. Soon, she invited her friends to share the ritual with her, and it quickly became a fashionable, treasured custom. Accommodations for gluten free and dairy free guests are available upon request.

Afternoon tea in the garden

The Dushanbe Teahouse was gifted to Boulder from our sister city in Tajikistan. More than 40 artisans created the decorative elements of the teahouse, including its hand-carved and hand-painted ceiling, tables, stools, columns, and exterior ceramic panels. Often these skills are handed down from generation to generation within families and the brilliance of the crafts is evident in the beauty of the space.
